noel vallens: waterfront follies // summer jeans

last weekend, when it was particularly humid and hot out, my boyfriend was obsessed with showing off his new ‘summer jeans’.  first, when heading out to dinner, he made everyone look at the stripes on the inside lining (“see, summer stripes”) and later when sitting out on the hot patio exclaiming about how cool his chambray jeans were (“these jeans are so cool.  everyone needs summer jeans.”)  by the end of the night, he’d pretty much convinced everyone at the table the need for these things, and i kinda secretly wanted my own.

so, earlier this week, while digging through my closet, i was pretty happy to come across my very own pair of chambray sailor pants.  i’d completely forgotten about these guys! i love that they are so dramatic.  and……as much ‘summer jean’ talk i endured last weekend, i have to admit they are kinda great.

the length of these require some sort of heel that doesn’t make the legs look all short and stubby. and i’ve been waiting for so long to pull out these rachel comey sandals that i picked up a few months ago.  after much fretting, i picked these up with the gift card neiman marcus generously gave us during the tumblr fashion week extravaganza.  wise decision; i love these things.

the owls: giveaway winner

happy friday everyone!  today is the day of good news — first, it’s friday.  TGIF, ya’ll.  second, we have a winner for the coiled crochet necklace giveaway.  …..and the winner is……Kasey!  yay!

and…………….joelle and i are taking a break this friday from our normal outfit posting (it’s been a long week).  instead, it’s hot out and i recently came across the easiest ice cream recipe ever that i thought i’d share.  it’s the perfect thing for summertime!

Ingredients:

  • bananas
  • splash of milk
  • bit of vanilla extract
  • toppings — chocolate, berries, etc

Peel, slice and cut your bananas, then freeze them for a few hours.  Take them out, blend them together with a tiny bit of milk + vanilla extract.  top with the extras.  you’re done!

that’s it for today - have a great weekend!

noel vallens: washed ashore

this weekend was such a beautiful one, and i spent it all outdoors.  the beach house will be ending soon, so we’re trying to soak up every last minute of it, and have so many things planned.  sunday was spent hanging out on the beach at high tide, when the sandy and pebbly parts of the beach get covered in clear water and it’s beautiful to float around on.

since we were outside on the beach all day, and i’m not exactly the sunbathing type, this long, covering dress was perfect to stay out of the sun’s rays, but still be beachy and comfortable…you know, when perching on rocks. i felt a bit like a mermaid, in a good way.

also this weekend, we spent all day saturday hanging out in the backyard working a super fun d.i.y. project.  i’m hoping to have everything finished soon and will give you more details next week!

noel vallens: summer coral

hope everyone had a wonderful holiday weekend!  today, instead of just one look, i’ve got four different looks featuring summery, silky and sparkly pieces.

the first look is a perfect spring/summer transition day outfit pairing a coral silk tank with high-waisted jeans and tall caramel sandals.  usually when the weather starts to get warm, it takes me a while to ease into wearing bare-all shorts and tanks, so i like to pair items with a bit more coverage with some fun summery items.  the bright, fun color of the tank gives it a nice summer feel.

this look is something I’ve been picturing in my mind since i bought these leggings and cardigan…but for some reason it needed the final piece to pull it all together.  with the leggings, i knew i wanted a long tunic to hide under but not something too bulky….and the brightness and silkiness of the tank brings it all together.

this look is perfect for beachy daywear.  long flowy layers and the bright tank mixed with neutral shorts and cognac sandals.

and finally, this last look is a fun evening look…with the tank tucked into a high-waisted floor length flowy black skirt and cage sandal heels.

noel vallens: on a midnight train

at long last, after being m.i.a. for a very long time, i’m finally back! joelle has been holding down the fashion fort from denver, and before i went out to rescue her, i was traipsing up and down the east coast, all the way from providence to savannah.

while visiting savannah, we headed to the salty marshes of south carolina, climbed aboard a catamaran and set sail into the sea.

lounging aboard the catamaran (i like to call it a yacht) and sipping champagne, one must be fully dressed for the occassion. unfortunately the fashion photos did not make it back to dry land, but i’ll do my best to re-create it for you.

decked in a luxurious (cotton) floor length dress, the long skirt kept the sun away (for the most part) during the day, and the chilly wind at bay for the ride home. the print on the skirt reminds me of something that belongs in barcelona.

and of course, it’s paired with gold jewelry and golden sandals because that’s what one wears while on a boat.

after docking in quiet little southern town and feasting by the water, we headed back to dry land at sunset.
