noel vallens: lady in white

every time i wear this dress, in all of it’s fullness i always feel like a very proper lady.  adding the ferragamo bow flats just makes it feel that way even moreso. growing up i can’t count how many time my proper southern mother told me ‘act like a lady’.  i never quite listened to her, and yet here i am, wearing very lady-like dresses.

noel vallens: mustard dreams

mustard handknit cowl

i was finally able to take some photos this past weekend of my FINISHED mustard/honey/golden cowl.  the pattern is from madeline tosh, and was a pretty quick and fun knit.  i used knit picks capra yarn, which is a cashmere blend and it is SO soft and squishy.  especially in this honeycomb pattern with lots of slipped stitches.

moving along, my new pair of favorite jeans, designed by my friend Jacqueline at Madewell.  i picked these out during fashion week when madewell hosted the CUTEST breakfast for us in their shop.  we had a gift card easter egg hunt around their store, munched on deliciously weird bagels (like peanut butter & jelly), had our fortunes told, and manicures.  AND we all put on a pants fashion show for ourselves and walked out with a new pair of jeans (thanks, madewell!)  i ended up going with the ‘vintage rocker’ because of the flare cut and the amazingly soft fabric.

alright, have a happy friday everyone.  this weekend, i’m going to be joining in several bachelorette activities, including TRAPEZE lessons tomorrow!  i’m terrified.  but will let you know how it goes, next week.

noel vallens: mr. newton street style

vintage polka dot dress

on our first day of the weardrobe conference, our first item on the agenda was to be photographed by mr. newton in gramercy park.  i’m seen here, clinging to the gate, because we got kicked out of gramercy park, not once, but twice.

and here i am again, this time with the lovely greta.

this dress is a favorite of mine, and halfway because of the process it took for me to get it.  in a ny thrift store, i eyed a girl across the room trying it on and staring at herself, adjusting, making faces, staring.  i really wanted the dress, but i knew as soon as she smelled competition, she’d buy it immediately.  so, for nearly 15 minutes, i stayed far away, sneaking glances…like a wolf stalking its prey.  finally, she put the dress down and started browsing around, and when i felt she was a safe distance away i grabbed it up.  a few minutes later, when i was trying it on, i could see her little wolf eyes peering at me from around the rack.

since then, i’ve been in awe of this little dress and its amazing fit, and have tried to base some creations on it’s design, but to no avail.
