The weather this weekend was so spectacularly wonderful, that I was very excited to finally be able to wear my plaid cape. I’ve been pretty fascinated by capes for a while now, and have been doing a bit of research to make my own…but of course, when a pretty vintage one pops up, it’s hard to resist and tell yourself that you need to spend hours making it yourself.

this is the cape, made by maryy, that originally inspired my wizardly obsession (I’m just smitten with everything she makes!). and, it looks pretty straightforward to make, so i was on the lookout for some sort of a pattern, or at least pattern guidance.

but, in the meantime, I came across this version in plaid for sale, which is just wonderful. i love the plaid…

…and i love the almost poncho-ness of it. however, i do think there is still room in my wardrobe left for a more tailored version.

this tailored cape is actually a pattern i was lucky enough find over at burdastyle. if one is going to have multiple cloaks in their wardrobe, then i think this tailored one + the plaid one covers a nice range. so…hopefully i will be making this one sometime before the spring actually arrives!
