ugh. today’s outfit is a total snoozer. now that its getting so dark by 5pm, taking photos is becoming a challenge- i have to do it during a break at work. and noel and i don’t always get much of a break. we were able to snap some photos yesterday, but i had a client meeting later in the day, and had to look business-y.

its not that i hated the separate pieces of my outfit. moreso that all together i felt frumpy and boring. but i will focus on some positives: i wore these wide-leg, thick wool pants that i found a couple weeks ago while consignment shopping with mimi. and actually, i think i need the hem taken OUT a little bit, because i had to wear my lowest heels with them. score! usually i have to hem pants for my short legs.

i also got to wear this silk diane von furstenberg blouse that i really like. i’ve been amassing a nice little collection of 6 or 8 loose-fitting silk tops, intending for them to be my winter wardrobe. but i tend to ‘save them up’ for certain occasions to avoid dry cleaning. i need to stop doing that- saving a nice shirt up for a boring work meeting seems silly.

here’s a closer look at the pleating on the sleeves. there’s also some pleating and pintucking on the other shoulder, and at the bottom of part of the waist band.
i used to be really into dvf when i first got a decent job and wanted nothing more than to be a PROFESSIONAL BUSINESS LADY. at one point i had a bunch of wrap dresses, until i finally realized they are not my style, and not flattering on my non-curvy bod. but just when i think i’m so over dvf, she comes out with a bunch of gorgeous blouses and sweaters, and draws me right back in.

the one piece of my ‘work’ wardrobe that brings me much joy is the mulberry alexa. i just have to reiterate how much i love this bag. i’ve been toting my laptop, paperwork, and books in it several times each week, and the leather just keeps getting better.

anyway, i think next time you see all these business-y pieces of clothing, i will try to style them in a more fun way. i plan to wear the blouse untucked over a ruched skirt, and the pants with a long sheer camisole and big oversized sweater.
just looking at these photos, i realize that had i grabbed a pair of oversized round sunglasses, and put my hair in an updo, and slipped on a vest, i could’ve gone for a sort of retro mary tyler moore look. so… next time! we all have our off days, right?
how do you all keep from hating your style when you have to dress up for something conservative- client meeting, job interview, etc. etc.? i find it hard to balance dressing for a professional occasion and still feeling like myself.
