for the past week, i’ve been visiting with the family in georgia. i’ve done absolutely no sewing, very minimal work on my knitting, and in my thrift store shopping found only one thing that i liked! but, i’ve been doing a lot of hanging out with my family and friends, cooking and eating the most deliciously decadent southern foods.

at dinner one night, after discussing growing up in georgia with some non-georgia-raised folks, i realized a few things that my childhood probably included that others’ didn’t. mentioning that every year my family gruelingly raked tons and tons of straw left me with perplexed looks around the table. (“straw”?) i guess not everyone has towering pine trees in their yards. other things we figured out that weren’t common knowledge at the table: getting bitten by fire ants, owning and shooting shotguns and rifles, riding 4-wheelers through the woods, going mud-bogging, waking up at 6am on saturday mornings to go deer hunting (which was more like deer watching), casting for shrimp in the ocean, and crabbing in the marsh with a chicken neck.

anyway, on to the outfit here. the blazer is the one thing that i bought during my trip. and my packing this year was super light, pretty much bringing the bare minimum to stay clothed during my stay.

the most exciting things about my outfit are the accessories. this necklace is one that i’d been admiring from my friend laurel wells’ shop. this necklace was a birthday present, and i absolutely love it! laurel hand dip-dyes each of the little ombre fringe strands and it is so beautiful in person!

the other exciting thing is the bag from madewell, which was a christmas present from my mom (thanks, mom!). the leather is super soft and the bag is big enough for me to carry all of my millions of things around. AND my spectacular chevron bracelet — another gift, from my sister…but more on that later.
