i’ve been wearing this hooded coat a lot lately since there’s been rain on and off, and i think it’s having quite an effect on what i wear underneath. any time i try to add the slightest bit of red to an outfit, i got way overboard and wear every shade of red in my closet.

i picked up this printed tee shirt intending to only wear it to bed, but it quickly wormed its way into my everyday outfits. i ended up wearing it on the weekend to brunch, and then again to work on monday. i’m crazy about the print- trees in cotton candy colors, and little blue gnomes walking through the forest.

i’ve never had any desire to own a little wristlet until i saw this one in a consignment shop. the leather seems too delicate to use it as a wallet in my messy bag, so i’ve attempted leaving my bags behind. i end up stuffing loads of stuff into my coat pockets- tissue packs, phone, lipgloss, pen, keys, etc. etc. i don’t know how the young kids manage to carry wristlets regularly, but i know my little sister is obsessed with them. i think next i’m going to clip this thing to my regular purse. i’ll call it a Meta Purse, and i’m 99% sure this term is going to catch on. big time.

joelle van dyne: light as a feather

jcrew minnie pants

happy friday all! today has felt like a very long week. it has been a week full of too much work, days getting dark too early, and i must admit, for the most part, dressing like a slob. but i do have this one outfit that i’m happy to show you.

i like the outfit because of this very special antique feather vest, which was recently given to me by a very special person: my dog walker. my dog walker is a most awesome woman who lives on my block. for her daily dog walking, she wears things like skinny jeans, ponchos, oversized sweaters, and always a bright red or pink lipstick. she is super stylish. and did i mention she’s in her 70s?

one day she saw me out walking the pups, and said that she noticed i like things that are white and furry. she told me that back when she worked in advertising, she would wear designer clothes every day, but that now she doesn’t have as much use for it. turns out she had bought this feather vest long ago at a vintage shop in the hamptons, and never figured out how to wear it. so she offered it to me!

it is such a unique piece. on the inside, you can see what looks like boning to hold the feathers in place. rather than opening up the middle like most vests, it snaps at the shoulders and the sides of the waist. to avoid looking like i was in a bird costume, i left one side of the waist open to wear the vest asymmetrically. however, i recently saw some photo in a magazine that gave me the idea to wear it with some wide-leg pants and no shirt underneath. so that’ll be next!

beneath my feathery vest, i’m looking like a crazy jcrew addict. the blouse is old, but the maroon colored minnie pants are new. i loved the grey pair i bought last year so much that i got them in 2 more colors this year. this pair is a real magnet for dog fur and stray vest feathers, but i still appreciate them. by the by, do you like this pose? what the heck was i doing? looks like giving birth to my bag.

chloe sunglasses

aaanyway, the huge sunglasses served as a disguise since i was basically taking photos in someone’s back yard.

the head scarf is also a sort of disguise. people would see me and scratch their heads asking themselves “girl? or pirate?”.

chloe three buckle booties

my boss made a snide comment to me for being “too tall- like a giant” in these shoes. i felt self-conscious all day! don’t you hate when people rain on your parade like that? now i’m vascillating daily between wanting to wear flats or wear even taller heels for spite.
