this weekend was a pretty low key one out at the greenport house.  we cruised around an old sailor shop filled to the brim with every odd maritime relic you could imagine, including a little maze out back of these tiny rooms filled with rope, ship parts, buoys and other pirate gear.  we also set up a backyard lawn picnic and moved the puzzling station outdoors (!) for outdoor puzzling time, while my friends played the beatles and tried to convince me of their greatness (still not convinced).  we had amazing greek food and drank a few too many white wine spritzers before heading out to see Midnight in Paris, eating yoohoo ice cream, and starting a mini-dance party. coming back to NYC last night was the last thing i wanted to do.

the outfit here is a pretty plain and simple one.  i realized when i was walking out of the door that everything i had on was vintage, so i threw this purse in to try to even things out a bit.  this thing has got to be the most functional thing ever.  i searched all over for a really thin leather purse that looked and acted just like a canvas tote bag, and this is pretty much it.  it is HUGE, but isn’t bulky at all.

i have been sewing like a crazy person lately!  my latest (finished) creation is this little detachable peter pan style collar.  i’ve been playing with it all weekend trying it out over different types of tops and it’s so versatile - i love it!  so, i’m going to be posting the pattern + tutorial tomorrow, but today we’re having a giveaway for this one!

i feel like the collar goes with a lot of different styles — it particularly worked with high neck dresses and shirts, mainly because of the pattern i made, but i could see it working with completely mismatched necklines, like a tank in the summer, or a bright red shirt for contrast. for this look, i kept it in the same spirit of rosemary’s baby, with a little bit of breakfast at tiffany’s with the glasses.
