prada shoes and calvin klein vintage skirt

after months and months of not being remotely interested in shopping, i decided that i needed new shoes.  and a new dress.  and 5 more pair of shoes.  and a purse.  i tend to take these things in spurts, and now my downstairs neighbor probably thinks i’m some sort of shipping distributor from all of the packages i get in the mail.  oh, and even though i live in NYC, i pretty much do all of my shopping online.  ebay and etsy are the best, and even stores like madewell and zara are in the city, why would i get out of my pajamas when they want to bring me everything to my doorstep for free?

so….my favorite purchase?  these black prada heels.  always in need of work stuff that isn’t overly frumpy these are pretty perfect.  simple and straightforward but a pretty modern shape which helps balance out all of the vintage i wear.

another purchase?  this witchy black dress (a vintage calvin klein find on etsy) that made me feel particularly stevie nicks-esque.

with lots of work travel recently, i’m finally able to use all of the little totes, bags and fun stuff that came along last fashion week.  my favorite is this little zipper bag from the alexa chung/madewell collaboration. it even has cats!  it’s the perfect size for toting my jewelry around.

…….which leads me to this new necklace i made.  small, layered rectangles, which unfortunately is now sold out in the shop!

noel vallens: monday morning

this weekend was a pretty low key one out at the greenport house.  we cruised around an old sailor shop filled to the brim with every odd maritime relic you could imagine, including a little maze out back of these tiny rooms filled with rope, ship parts, buoys and other pirate gear.  we also set up a backyard lawn picnic and moved the puzzling station outdoors (!) for outdoor puzzling time, while my friends played the beatles and tried to convince me of their greatness (still not convinced).  we had amazing greek food and drank a few too many white wine spritzers before heading out to see Midnight in Paris, eating yoohoo ice cream, and starting a mini-dance party. coming back to NYC last night was the last thing i wanted to do.

.

the outfit here is a pretty plain and simple one.  i realized when i was walking out of the door that everything i had on was vintage, so i threw this purse in to try to even things out a bit.  this thing has got to be the most functional thing ever.  i searched all over for a really thin leather purse that looked and acted just like a canvas tote bag, and this is pretty much it.  it is HUGE, but isn’t bulky at all.
