noel vallens: just a swingin’

so, before we move on to things like clothes and outfits…i have some photos from this past weekend’s trapeze lesson, which was AMAZING.  it was so terrifying at first, but SO MUCH FUN.  i want to go back and do it again immediately.

we started out with a simple little knee hang…easy, right?  then we added a back flip dismount.  still hanging in there.  on our 3rd time, we added a catch. which means i’m responsible for not ripping this guys shoulders out of socket because my knees refuse to uncling themselves midair from the bar.  AND it means jumping when they tell you to, otherwise the timing is off and bad things happen.

this is a little video of my first catch…

i was just happy i made it without causing anyone any injuries.  my friend, annie, was by far the most graceful one up there out of all of us.  this was her second time and she was doing splits into her catch!

overall, i thought everything was amazing, even if terrifying, and if you’re in NYC I’d highly recommend trying it out over at the trapeze school new york

ok, now on to boring, static things like clothes.  my uniform lately has been pairing this chambray shirt with everything, and throwing this came coat over it. and  my latest little vintage find was this old, beatup gucci purse.  so adorable!

noel vallens: thundersnow

sorry for all of the indoors pictures these days, but after having our 6th snowstorm in 30 days, it’s a bit of a mess outside.  the one redeeming thing about all of the snow, was the other night it was actually thunder and lightning with crazy amount of snow coming down.  we thought we cleverly termed it ‘thundersnow’, but after googling it…it turns out to be an actual thing…and term!  and, is one of the “rarest of the meteorological holy grails”!

in any case, with all of the snow i’m so glad i finally got a pair of snow boots. however, the other day, joelle and i were heading out to lunch (in the middle of crazy snow) and i look down to see her wearing her new louboutin boots!  i asked her if she was crazy and she said “i bought these to be my snow boots.” !

too bad these shoes never see daylight and are completely indoors…but they’ll have their day soon as this snow goes away.  i’ve been wanting to wear these since i got them….so i just wear them around the house in my pajamas, indoors at work.  they’re so lively and bright! AND they match my new lipstick perfectly.  bored at work one day, joelle and i hit up every single drug store in the financial district looking for this silly cover girl lipstick that i thought would be a great red-orange shade (that i read really good reviews about).  having no luck, joelle surprised me and brought some in for me a few days later (finding it near her apartment).  i tried it out today and love it!!

and the jewelry here is a recent vintage bracelet-that-looks-like a belt and a cute cynthia rowley bright red bow ring. the sweater was one i picked up from etsy and is an authentic norwegian wool fair isle sweater.  i LOVE the colors and as a knitter am in awe of how perfectly knitted it is.  it makes me want to try a pair of fair isle mitts…like the rag and bone version that i’ve been seeing floating around.

noel vallens: in a pinch

this post is actually coming from you live tuesday night.  this week, i’m off on a work trip meeting with customers, with no time to post during the day.  luckily, i was able to sneak in some photos of the event at cynthia rowley my dear friend annie had tonight.

first of all, i was coming from meeting with a work client where the dress code is unusually stiff and conservative.  joelle and i keep a ‘work closet’ at our office filled with our most boring dresses, skirts and tops…so that just in case we accidentally forget to dress up, we’re plenty prepared for any impromptu meetings that we forget about.

this was a dress of joelle’s that i borrowed from our closet. i’m so freaked out by what is appropriate ‘business-wear’ (since i rarely have to do it) i put on this dress this morning, which was very fitting and curvy, but literally came up to my collarbone, and down to my knees.  for daytime, i covered it up with a very modest cardigan, a no-nonsense necklace, and some very sensible black wedges.  i got this ‘stare’ from my boyfriend though, and blurted out, “what??  do i look slutty?” i don’t think i could be any more wholesome if i was wearing a doily covered turtleneck with lace trim.

going straight from work to the cynthia rowley outing, i needed some creative accessories to go from corporate-office-nun to something more presentable.  so i brought a pair of crazy heels, threw out the cardigan, and put on a much more dramatic necklace.  you could hardly tell that i’d been sitting in a room talking about the psycholinguistic value of making software more conversational just hours prior.

so the event itself was really great!  cynthia rowley is so sweet and charming!  she had some fantastic stuff in the shop and we had so much fun trying on everything.  in the end i decided on a cute red bow ring, and some nautical bangles.  (coming soon).  i also found a great pair of strappy sandals, but was saddened to find out they’re not available yet — coming soon for next spring!
