this week i’ve been super stressed and annoyed at work. i hate working long hours, and i’m tired, and while i’m usually an extremely calm person, there are a few people i would love to scream at right now. i’ve tried every way i can think of to get rid of the stress: eating bakery and going to bed early, eating bakery and staying up late, running for hours… nothing was working. then finally i came home two nights ago, took out all the craft supplies i’ve been meaning to get to, and went to work.

one of my projects was this flower headband. i made it using a knifty knitter loom my aunt gave me at christmas. a few nights before, she came over with her large knifty knitter loom, and i could hardly listen to a word she said because i was mesmerized watching her weave the yarn around and around the loom. i had never seen loom knitting before, and let me tell you, it is a very relaxing thing to watch.
i’m glad that i finally tried my hand at it- i love these cute little flowers. they knit up in about 5 minutes, and are a great way to use up leftover yarn that would otherwise sit in my supply box forever.
i thought i could wear these flowers as earmuffs, but to be honest they aren’t very warm. i am going to try sewing fleece to the inside to see if that helps. and Noel had the brilliant idea of using the flowers to decorate my giant headphones! i love that idea. i also would like to attach tons of these to make a crazy looking hat.

another result of my stress-crafting time is this newly decorated pair of boots. i was drawn to these boots because of the large grommets that make up the lacing holes, but found that that special detail was lost when using the black laces that came with the boots. so i swapped out the laces with some white ribbon.

here’s a before-and-after, because i don’t think i’ve ever posted a photo of these boots. i like the effect, so now i need to find some more sturdy ribbon.

yet another of my craft projects is the white scarf i’m wearing here.

it was very quick and easy to make- i used the biggest knitting needles i could find, in the hope of creating a bare lattice to weave various bits of trim through. my co-worker calls it a ‘spiderweb scarf’, and i think that’s an apt name. in order to make the scarf, i used mostly stockinette stitch, but threw in garter every now and again, and also did some yarn-overs, and some k2togethers. this anything-goes pattern left me with irregular gaps and holes in the scarf, which is exactly what i wanted. i used the holes to tie in fabric scraps and some soft fringe trim- i still plan to add more, but this is what i had sitting around the house.
in making this scarf, i tried left-hand knitting (aka german knitting, aka continental knitting) for the first time, and i think i’m officially a convert! i’m a lefty, so it makes sense that i’d prefer this method. i just love that i don’t have to move my hands so much while knitting this way.

my last project has nothing to do with my outfit of the day, but i am very proud of it and wanted to show it off! i made these pleated-front slippers using a coco knits pattern and some nice soft yarn that my boyfriend’s mom gave me as a gift. this project was my first time knitting something 3D, knitting in the round, and doing lots of other things i’ve never tried before. they aren’t perfect, but the fact that they even resemble a slipper makes me so happy. i would definitely recommend this pattern if you’re a beginner wanting to try some new knitting techniques- since the slippers are pretty small, you don’t lose much work having to rip things out and start over (which i did many times over).
