joelle van dyne: comptoir des cotonniers

these photos were taken last weekend, by my boyfriend, on another perfect warm day. we had been aimlessly wandering around astoria, picking up bagels in one spot, and coffee in another. it was early, and warm, and not many people were out yet. we had just walked past the museum of the moving image when i noticed this grey building next door. i’ve probably walked past it a million times, but never saw it till that morning- the light filtering onto the grey brick was so soft and pretty. that’s something i love about NYC- you can always find something new here.

on the topic of finding new things, i just ‘discovered’ the comptoir des cotonniers brand last month. i don’t know how i had never seen it before.. probably because i don’t do a lot of in-person shopping. the minute i spotted their section in a department store, i was smitten with the soft colors and fabrics. it also didn’t hurt that everyone working there was gorgeous and french. i ended up with this peep-shoulder blouse and hat. the hat protected my nose from the sun in florida, but i still ended up with two circular shoulder burns thanks to the blouse. oops.
as a side-note, does anyone know how to keep a hate from getting very floppy over time? it is a huge annoyance of mine these days.
comptoir des cotonniers blouse and hat, uniqlo +j skirt, dolce vita pela sandals, proenza schouler ps1 bag, ann taylor loft bracelet (c/o)

They’re opening a store on Bleecker. I remember the first time Matt and I walked by because I’d never heard of them so I actually had to translate the name for him, as opposed to knowing what it meant and about the brand.
