joelle van dyne: in the aeroplane

these past few weeks it feels as if i’ve been traveling more often than i’ve been home. i’ve had to go to boston, and now denver, for work. i have slacked on my posting this week, and have not been able to do my usual blog reading- i miss it!

i’ve seen some discussion on other blogs about ideal airplane outfits, so i decided to take a photo of mine! i wear the same thing every time. here are my essential elements:

1. the oversized, soft tee. mine is the ultra soft american apparel ‘sexuali-tee’ (what a cringe-worthy name! i try to forget what it’s called.). i created a little DIY ruching on mine.

2. cardi-wrap. this one is from bcbg. i’m always freezing on a plane, so i tie up the long sides of this sweater in the back most of the time, and then undo it when i get chilly- it doubles as a blanket.

3. stretchy skinny jeans. these are courtesy of Pac Sun- their ‘denim leggings’. they’re ideal for tucking into boots since they’re so tapered, and they are very stretchy, allowing one to contort into all kinds of positions while trying and failing to get comfy on a 4.5 hour flight.

4. favorite heels. these are my loeffler randall gillians. i knew i wanted to wear them for business meetings, but i’m always paranoid my luggage will get lost, so i wear my best shoes for the flight and pack the rest. i bring socks in my bag to change into on the plane.

5. a big soft bag. i carry a lot of snacks onto the plane, and i like to have a smooshy bag that doubles as a pillow in case of delays (which is always if you fly out of LGA).

the jacket is not part of the usual travel uniform, just a little bonus. just my luck, i am in denver for the 5 days of bad weather they have all year- it’s been around 40 degrees, grey and rainy the whole time, so i haven’t gotten to go into the mountains. but on the bright side i got to bring out one of my favorite fall jackets, from my beloved loeffler randall.

so there you have it- my flying clothes. i will change back into them tomorrow for my trip back home, and will be back with bigger and better outfit photos next week.
